This one is one of my favorites. not just in terms of history but in terms of taste and smell too. Rauchbier is German lager brewed with smoked (Rauch, in German) malt. But how can malt be smoked ?

In the old days, before the invention of smoking malts using the drum kiln drying method that firstly appeared in brewing during the 18th and 19th centuries, malt was smoked simply by being exposed over open fire. …

Kellerbier is the German term for “Cellar beer” and as you can easily imagine, it is because this kind of beer was originally aged in the cellars of the brewers.

Originating in Bavaria of middle ages, Kellerbier was one of the first beer kinds that were lagered. During this times, refrigiration technology was not even a thing but German brewers had to find out a way to store and condition their beers under cooler temperatures. …

As the name of this beer style suggests, Trappist ales originate from the Trappist monks. Trappist monks are part of the “Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance”, which began in 1098 and was originating from La Trappe, France. This order of monks follows strictly the “Rule of Benedict” as a guiding principle for the life in the monasteries. Their life is dedicated to study, prayer and various occupations that would offer the monasteries a degree of financial sustainability. In this framework , Trappist ales emerged.

As you already know, every beer style has its own very unique story. Helles, which is one of the most famous commercial beer styles has not been around for very long (in comparison with other beer styles that seems to be around for more than 4–5 centuries).

During the late 19th century, the best seller European commercial beer style was the Czech Pilsner. The clean lager beers originating from Bohemia, were really popular due to their crystal clear color and crispy taste. …

As Apple’s documentation states:

Core Foundation is a framework that provides fundamental software services useful to application services, application environments, and to applications themselves.

One of the extremely useful features that Core Foundation offers, is a group of functions that provide us with detailed information regarding the memory state of a Core Foundation object (an instance of a Class).

The first memory-related function of Core Foundation is CFGetRetainCount and it returns the retain count of the object. This function takes a single argument that is the object that we want to get the retain count for.

An example is shown…

Eisbock (aka ice bock) is a full bodied, strong lager originating from Germany.
As many beer styles, this one was also discovered by accident.

The style is a traditional specialty of the “Kulmbach” district of Bavaria. What makes it so special is the production procedure. After the fermentation end, Eisbock is partially freezed. Then, the water ice is removed from the container, barrel or tank (in the modern breweries) and thus the beer ends up with a more concentrated flavour and alcohol content. The process is known as “freeze distillation”.

The legend has it that during 1890, a young apprentice in…

At some point during the 1700s, in the French-speaking part of Belgium, called Wallonia, a new kind of beer emerged. The word “Saison” means season in French, and as the name suggests, these beers were brewed to be consumed on a certain season of the year.

Saison beers (also known as “Farmhouse ales”) were firstly brewed by farmers in Wallonia during the Winter and more specifically around Christmas, when temperatures were at their lowest. Then they were allowed to mature and bottle or cask condition until late Spring and Summer in caves or cellars. …

Around 18th century, Peter the Great opened Czarist Russia to the West. As you imagine, the immediate result of this move was that the commerce and economy between Czarist Russia and Western European countries flourished. At that time, Arthur Guiness had just took “Porter” recipes from England to Ireland while he increased the dark, coffee-tinted profile of the style. He also added “Extra Stout” sign on the label of Guiness beer, which makes him the founder of the new beer style called “Stout”.

In this article we will create a European roulette in SwiftUI. During the process we will learn about animations, structs, enums and state variables.

As Wikipedia states:

“Roulette is a casino game named after the French word meaning little wheel. In the game, players may choose to place bets on either a single number, various groupings of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19–36) or low (1–18)”

The European roulette has 37 distinct pockets (numbered 1 to 36) and a green pocket marked 0 (zero).

So the…
